Degree description
The Bachelor of Science program in aeronautical management technology with a concentration in air traffic management provides a technical foundation in the procedures used by air traffic controllers in control towers and radar facilities.
You acquire a strong background in aircraft operations and business principles, and you gain management skills through coursework specific to air traffic control and aviation. As part of the degree program, you take courses that qualify you to earn your airline dispatcher certificate.
This intensive program of classroom study and laboratory practice uses state-of-the-art air traffic control simulators to enhance and reinforce classroom study. You receive training in the methodologies and technologies that are currently being developed for the next generation of air traffic control systems. You develop the skills of analytical thinking, clear and concise communication, problem-solving and teamwork.

Graduates of the program are not guaranteed employment by the FAA. Students who do not have U.S. citizenship may be admitted to the program but are not eligible for employment by the FAA.
A current ASU student must have a minimum cumulative ASU GPA of 2.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A").

As a high-achieving student, accelerated bachelor's plus master's degree programs are designed for you to share undergraduate coursework with graduate coursework to accelerate completion of your master's degree. When you pursue concurrent degrees (also known as a “double major”), you earn two distinct degrees and receive two diplomas. Working with your academic advisor, you can create your own concurrent degree combination. Some combinations are not possible due to high levels of overlap in curriculum.

Advancements in automation and next-generation air traffic control technologies are enhancing controller productivity; however, maintaining a strong pipeline of qualified professionals remains essential to ensuring the safety and efficiency of U.S. airspace.
The FAA's 2025-2028 Air Traffic Controller Workforce Plan projects hiring at least 8,900 new air traffic controllers over this period to address ongoing staffing needs resulting from retirements, training attrition and increased air traffic volume.
New computerized systems support controllers by performing routine tasks, enabling them to manage greater volumes of traffic more effectively.
Despite the growing demand for new controllers, admission to FAA-approved training programs remains highly competitive, as the number of applicants continues to exceed available openings. Graduates who meet all FAA training and certification requirements are eligible for consideration for employment as air traffic controllers.

Accelerated programs allow students the opportunity to expedite the completion of their degree.
Accelerated master's
These programs allow students to accelerate their studies to earn a bachelor's plus a master's degree in as few as five years (for some programs).
Each program has requirements students must meet to be eligible for consideration. Students typically receive approval to pursue the accelerated master's during the junior year of their bachelor's degree program. Interested students can learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply.
Concurrent degrees allow students to pursue their own personal or professional interests, earn two distinct degrees and receive two diplomas. To add a concurrent degree to your existing degree, work with your academic advisor.
Joint programs, or jointly conferred degrees, are offered by more than one college and provide opportunities for students to take advantage of the academic strengths of two academic units. Upon graduation, students are awarded one degree and one diploma conferred by two colleges.
