Engineering Science (Business) degree description

You prepare to solve the most pressing problems facing society in the Bachelor of Science program in engineering science with a concentration in business in the School of Integrated Engineering. The program connects you with the core values of ASU through an innovation-focused interdisciplinary education that's open to you even without an intensive science and math background.

Coursework emphasizes basic engineering and business principles, including engineering design, science, mathematics, artificial intelligence, business intelligence, accounting, supply chain management and grounded theory in hands-on, project-based courses taught in makerspaces. Electives enable you to customize your degree for your preferred career pathway. Program faculty bring rich interdisciplinary perspectives to courses that foster creativity, critical thinking, communication, context and community by having you solve practical problems in partnership with local industry.

Why specialize in business at ASU?

This concentration sits in Arizona's rapidly growing West Valley, one of the country's fastest-expanding hubs for advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, aerospace, logistics, health care and AI-enabled technologies. As new technical jobs open across the region, you learn where industry is growing, connect with local employers and gain applied experience through internships and industry-sponsored projects. Through industry events, guest speakers, company visits and internships, you build connections with employers while exploring careers in semiconductors, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, logistics, healthcare and emerging technologies.

Unlike traditional engineering degrees that focus on a single discipline, this pathway prepares you to work across engineering, technology and business. You develop a broad technical foundation while building skills in systems thinking, project management, supply chain, leadership and business strategy, then learn to turn technical ideas into practical solutions that create value for organizations and communities.

As part of ASU's School of Integrated Engineering, you learn in a collaborative setting that emphasizes experiential learning and interdisciplinary teamwork. Small class sizes, personalized advising and close faculty mentorship help you build meaningful connections and applied projects help you graduate with a portfolio that shows both technical and professional skills.

This interdisciplinary engineering studies pathway also offers an accessible entry into the field. Many engineering degrees require an extensive calculus sequence, but this curriculum is built on applied engineering and analytical problem-solving, with precalculus serving as the highest required math course.

Additional details

Learning extends beyond the classroom here. You can join engineering and technology student organizations, professional networking events, hackathons, design competitions and innovation challenges that strengthen your technical, leadership and professional skills. You can also connect with peers through the ASU student chapter of the National Society of Interdisciplinary Engineers and get involved in undergraduate research and community-based projects.

You also benefit from the broader ASU experience, including leadership development, study abroad, career services, Sun Devil Athletics and hundreds of student organizations that support your academic, professional and personal growth.

Frequently asked questions about degree programs

Accelerated programs allow students the opportunity to expedite the completion of their degree.

Accelerated master's

These programs allow students to accelerate their studies to earn a bachelor's plus a master's degree in as few as five years (for some programs).

Each program has requirements students must meet to be eligible for consideration. Students typically receive approval to pursue the accelerated master's during the junior year of their bachelor's degree program. Interested students can learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply.

Concurrent degrees allow students to pursue their own personal or professional interests, earn two distinct degrees and receive two diplomas. To add a concurrent degree to your existing degree, work with your academic advisor.

Joint programs, or jointly conferred degrees, are offered by more than one college and provide opportunities for students to take advantage of the academic strengths of two academic units. Upon graduation, students are awarded one degree and one diploma conferred by two colleges.

ASU adds new programs to Degree Search frequently. Come back often and look for the "New Programs" option.

ASU Online offers programs in an entirely online format with multiple enrollment sessions throughout the year. See https://asuonline.asu.edu/ for more information.
