The Master of Advanced Studies program allows you to focus your studies on two advanced knowledge areas by enrolling in official ASU graduate certificates to earn a master's degree. This individualized learning experience provides you with the opportunity to complete your master's degree incrementally and offers flexibility to complete your program in stages to advance your skills for the workplace. You have the opportunity to acquire specific knowledge and advanced skills from multiple knowledge areas, based on your chosen certificates.

Certificates
Based on your individual needs, you select one main and one stackable ASU graduate certificate (each consisting of 15 or more credit hours), using ASU Degree Search. The academic college offering the main certificate provides academic advising and awards the master's degree.

Main Certificate Coursework Additional curriculum information Students are required to select one main and one stackable graduate certificate to be a candidate for the MAS program.
Stackable Certificate Coursework
The minimum total credit hours for the program is 30. Students must complete all coursework required for both certificates.

The MAS program does not have an application through the standard graduate application process. Interested students must submit a standard graduate application for each graduate certificate.
Graduate certificates are eligible if they consist of 15 or more unique credit hours and were completed within seven years of admission to the MAS.
Students who are interested in the MAS program or have specific questions should contact advising in the academic unit that administers their main certificate.
Graduate certificates typically do not allow for financial aid. There are a select few graduate certificates approved to qualify for aid. Questions regarding financial aid for specific certificates can be directed to the Financial Aid Office.
International student questions can be directed to the International Students and Scholars Center.

The MAS program is a flexible, tailored degree customized to the differing interests and needs of students and working professionals. Participating in the stackable MAS program can provide students with opportunities to advance their careers through targeted credentials.
Program term definitions
Accelerated programs allow students the opportunity to expedite the completion of their degree.
Accelerated master's
These programs allow students to accelerate their studies to earn a bachelor's plus a master's degree in as few as five years (for some programs).
Each program has requirements students must meet to be eligible for consideration. Students typically receive approval to pursue the accelerated master's during the junior year of their bachelor's degree program. Interested students can learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply.
Concurrent degrees allow students to pursue their own personal or professional interests, earn two distinct degrees and receive two diplomas. To add a concurrent degree to your existing degree, work with your academic advisor.
Joint programs, or jointly conferred degrees, are offered by more than one college and provide opportunities for students to take advantage of the academic strengths of two academic units. Upon graduation, students are awarded one degree and one diploma conferred by two colleges.
